eMac G4 display dim

Hi. I have a question about the display on my eMac G4. When I woke the display up from sleep it was dark and dim. I didn't do anything that would effect this and the display was fine before it went to sleep. I have increased the brightness to full strength, which seems to help, but I shouldn't have to do this. I can't find anything else that will help.
Please help!
