Enabling Duplex Printing

Hello,

Thank you in advance for your help. I am new to Macs, having just received a Macbook Pro last Friday after using Windows for most of my life. I have two printers that feature automatic duplex. However, I am unable to determine how to enable it for either one of them. The printers are Brother HL-5250DN, and the HP 6980 series. They are both connected to my computer via USB although, eventually, I hope to be able to put them on the Apple Time Capsule I just purchased to have them be on the network in my apartment. To tell you about my experience with the Brother Printer: apparently, Leopard already has the drivers for my printer. They are BR-Script 3 and Cupps. Neither one of then is allowing me to select duplex. As for the HP 6980 Series printer, it is gray and is not even allowing me to click onto it.

What do I need to do? I no longer have the CDs for these machines. As soon as I plugged in the USB (they are both on a USB hub) my MBP picked them up.

Thank you for any help you can provide. I hope that I provided a sufficient amount of information.

I have a Xerox printer with Duplex.

If I click "Print" the small dialogue box appears with the name of the Printer, The Presets and the four buttons across the bottom - PDF - Preview - Cancel - Print.

Next to the Printer name is the small blue button with a down arrow. Click on the arrow and the box expands. One of the choices is "Copies". Next to this are two buttons "Collate" and "Two-Sided". I click on "Two-sided" to print in Duplex.

Of course, these options may only be there because they are part of the pre-installed Xerox driver. I have no experience of other duplex printers on the Mac. So, yours may be different....
 
I have two Xerox PostScript printers with duplex. For my printers, duplex printing is enabled using the Layout pop-up menu selection of the File > Print dialog box. It is the second selection if you click Copies & Pages.

Word to the wise: Members of this forum can help you with a lot of things. However, waiting for answers to questions that you post online from people who may or may not know the answer is time-consuming. I suggest that you learn to use your new Mac like I did and like most other Mac users did. The rule of thumb is that what you are looking for is where you expect it to be. Explore. If you do, then you won't hurt anything. On the other hand, you might learn something. In fact, you might learn a lot.
