Energy saver & USB 2 PCI cards & G4 Sawtooth

Hello. There are sleep issues with the G4 sawtooth, especially runing OS 10.4.8, when you install a USB2 Pci card but it seems that I cannot stop it from going to sleep. It seems update .7 and .8 only made it worse. I am only assuming that because I get random freezes, kernal attacks. Is the proper way to put the sawtooth to sleep in the energy saver is to set it to "Never"? I understand that ONLY the first setting, 'Put the computer to sleep' affects the USB issue. thank you
