Entourage Not sending Mail

I use Entourage for my email. Beginning this morning, I can receive email but can NOT SEND email.

Error message -3259 "An operation on the server timed out. The server may be down, overloaded, or there may be too much net traffic."

Hi, i tried absolutely everything then came up with this which worked for me:

1) Under Tools/Accounts, click on advanced sending options under SMTP server
2) Select "override default SMTP port" and change port to 2525
3) Select "SMTP requires authentication"
4) Select "Use same settings as receiving mail server"
5) Do not select "SMTP requires secure connection (SSL)"

Everything should then work perfectly

(Macbook with OSX Leopard and Entourage, accessing Webmail accounts)
 
@anders605 I have the same dilemma and would like to try your suggestion and I am using OSX Tiger 10.4.11 on Entourage 11.0. I can't locate the advanced setting on Accounts under Tools. TIA. (even my Mail 2.1.3 has stopped from functioning)
 
Hey MisterMe!! Thanks so much for that great advice. After an exhaustive Q & A with the ISP, we were able to fix the problem.

Anyway, for all those who would be experiencing problems with Entourage and Mail applications, it is best to check primarily your ISP as it may be a configuration matter that necessitates their advice. As to my problem, we just changed the outgoing mail server from smtp.gmail.com to smtp.your ISP server and likewise changed the server port number and Voila!
