entourage problems

during the night last night, the power went out at my office. my computer was on at the time. this morning, i tried to launch entourage, and it sits at the opening splash screen. in fact, its still on the splash screen after 30 minutes. a force quit doesn't help. i also tried restarting, no help.

any fancy tricks i can try?

You could try another E-Mail application and try to import the Entourage database. Also, you could move the db to another place so Entourage would start up with a fresh one and then try to import that one. Worst case: Open the db in BBEdit. If you can read the content, you still have your data for further consultation if you need to look at an older mail - and start anew.

Regular Backups of the user's home folder could have prevented this case. And might in the future.

I'm not sure about the X version of Entourage, but in Entourage 2001 you can hold down the ALT-key when starting Entourage to get a "repair database" dialog.
