hi folks

my old trusty epson 870 doesn't show up when I am using classic for my accounts software so i cant print. (works fine in osx)

I'm using a iMac G5 (non intel) and had to install os9 classic separately.

any thoughts?

cheers
Michael

Two thoughts:

Classic often doesn't play well with external devices. If that is
your problem, the only workaround I've found is to Choose the
LaserWriter8 driver (No, you don't need an LW) and select the
Print of FIle option. That creates a .ps (postscript) file that Preview
can open and print.

You don't have a driver for that Epson in your Classic System
Folder/Extensions older.

thx Al

thats what i ended up doing for now, bit of a hassle but works.
My extensions in OS9 doent show he driver. Tried to install the driver (downloaded from epson) but it stops during install with an error each time.

cheers

Considering that Mac OS 9 and below were horrible with memory management, you might have to assign a certain amount of memory that is more than what is already assigned to it (all of this is done dynamically in OS X and other operating systems). Select the icon for the installer and then go to File-->Get Info. Once the Get Info windows comes up for the installer, click the drop-down menu and select Memory. There you can give the minimum memory usage and preferred usage. Increase the preferred usage to something much higher if it's too low (but not too high as the rest of the system needs the memory as well). Once you're set this, close the window and run the installer again.

Good luck.

Damn Epson! I downloaded the 6.3AE driver in hopes that I could
see a Chooser extension I could manually put in the OS9 extensions
folder. Double-clicking the SEA launched Classic then the installer,
which claimed to have worked fine, but I can't find an Epson driver
anywhere. Certainly doesn't show in the OS9 Chooser.
