epson r200 over samba

I have a Epson Stylus-Photo R200 printer. I can install the EPSON-USB drivers and print with no problem.

If instead I attach the printer to my winxp machine and connect via samba I cannot find sutable drivers.

I can print with CUPS-gimp-print but the color is awful -- there are green lines through the image. I know that the latest "alpha" of gimp-print is supposed to fully support the R200, but I'm new to Mac and don't want to mess with unstable software (not yet).

What I really want is to be able to use the epson drivers that come on CD to print over samba. Does anyone know how to do this?

When I search for files with the name r200 I find a few in the /Library/Printers/EPSON/ and in ~/Library/ but none of these files seem to be printer drivers (at least they don't work if I select them as the driver in the printer configuration setup. Anohter solution that I've throught of is installing the printer as an EPSON-USB and then changing it to be a SMB printer, but again I don't know how to do this.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions,
sb

Another option you might not have considered is setting up Unix Print Services on your WinXP machine, and then connecting to the printer through that. That way, you'd still be using the native drivers rather than the Gimp-print drivers.

I've been considering the Microsoft Unix Services for the XP machine, and have been trying to get the NFS client to work. I've concluded that by the time I get the Windows machine working this way I might as well have waited for the alpha version of gimp-print I need to become stable. :7)

For as many problems as I have had getting things configured the way that I want them in Mac and Linux, these problems are pretty insignificant compared to the problems I've had making Windows do what I want.
