First, the hardware/system:
Powerbook G3 series running 10.2.8/9.2
The situation:
The computer was in sleep, being powered by the AC adapter (the battery at the time was installed but dead). There was power outage.
When I tried to reboot, the backlight would flash off at the moment the system loading went from the gray background with the Apple logo to the "progress indication" window. The backlight would then come back on just as the desktop appears (although not always.) The backlight could be made to come back on by adjusting the display brightness control. BUT, the backlight always remains dark when I try to wake the computer from sleep.
What I tried:
Assuming that it was a PMU issue, I tried repeatedly doing a reset (shift-fn-ctrl-power).
I also tried to reset the PRAM (cmd-opt-p-r-power). [Time and date were NOT effected, which struck me as odd.]
Neither had any effect. It really seems to be like some kind of power management issue.
Thanks!
