error -36 when transfering from a CD

Hello,

I am using an iMac with Mac OS X version 10.4.11 with a 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor. I burned a CD of photos on another computer and I've been trying to copy them onto my computer. Some of the files seem to transfer over fine, if I do them one at a time or 3 or 4 at a time. But I tend to get "error -36" for most of them.

Sometimes the photo will transfer over but when I open it, I only have half a photo (for example, if it's a photo of someone's face, the image cuts off at the nose, and the rest of the image is blank or gray). This process takes a long time (even when the photos transfer without any problems) and I often have to relaunch Finder. Relaunching Finder sometimes takes a few minutes.

Finally, the disk reader is making a lot of noise as if it's trying very hard to do it's job.

Is there anything I can do to fix this?

Thanks,

Seth
