Events disappearing from iCal

When I create a new event in iCal it appears for a few moments, and then disappears. Any ideas on how I can go about troubleshooting and fixing this?
 
It would help if you described your machine and OS.

Are you sync-ing calendars with another Mac that believes it has the authority to override your entries?
 
Thanks, Whitehill: it seems that the problem is something to do with BusySync, which I use to sync my Google calendars with my iCal calendars. I've emailed BusySync's tech support people.
