Just think how we could help out the admin and this site if every member donated $20.

I'm going to in the next few days hopefully. :)

I have no issues with donating $$ to keep this site up and running. (Hell, its much cheaper than a movie, and with Herve running around you never know what's going to happen :D )

But out of curiosity, why the disinterest with advertisers? Surely you have the page-views to outsource your advertising to one of the larger ad companies. (Doubleclick, Valueclick, 24/7, etc)

Is it just an aversion to the commercialization of the internet? Is it not worth the time/effort? Is it not aesthetically pleasing?

Or do advertisements just not live up to the ideals of this site?


Don't get me wrong, I praise you for running such a fine service with out the hinderance of advertisements. I'm just curious of the logic (being an ex-webmaster of an ad-driven site, and the current webmaster of a corporate site[ie pageviews not driving income]).

Ad driven sites just don't hold up. Although we generate many page impressions, we don't generate enough to provide a value to companies like doubleclick or 24/7, plus they stay away from message board sites. Simply because less users generate more impressions, inflating results, driving down "per click" on the CPM scale.

Eventually, we will disable all ads on the site, including our own "internal" ads.
