About one year ago I was writting there that Apple had a very bad strategy in France in the way they deal with ferch reseallers. I also talked about their hardware and especially about servers.
Now, the bilan.
Fisrtly, the relation ship between Apple and reseallers is the same. bad point. I will add this time that Apple sends a lot of little papers and useless things that nobody takes. Then most of them go to the trash. This always makes me mad ... if they asked how much we need or something like this they could waste so less money, saving it for better uses.
About the harware ... a lot of evolutions. They renewed absolutely all. So few things to say. One very important : the Xserve. Thank you Apple. At last . Xserve/10.2 is a so good serving platform and the QuickTime Streaming server is so good. But well ... the situation is still the same. Apple could sell motherboards, firms and little "hackers" (those students who like to touch to all) would be so happy. So just a question : when ? (NB: I'm not talking about clones) Imagine : you need 50 computers for your firm. Do you need 50 GeForce4, 50 DVD-R/CD-RW ?? I don't think so. Do you want a non evolutive and expensive (in this case it is) iMac ? Maybe one for the secretary at the entrance for the design. But 49 others more ... ?? Then building your own macs with Apple selled MotherBoards, little video card, little ethernet card and PC Box should be be cheaper. the problem ? drivers ... Linux as a lot of drivers, windows too ... why not mac ? and so much drivers are already available so just taking the "compatible" things it would be ok. So just one question : when ??
well, that's all.
I do love my new G4, I do love Mac OS X.2, I do love Darwin/XFree/KDE3, ...
I hope this to continue for a long time, or I could switch to a PC/OpenBSD or GNU/Linux architecture
