Exact Science of USB 2

I recently obtained a USB 2 CDRW that came with no cables.
However, I'm fairly sure one of my USB cables is 2.0, but I don't know which one.
Is there anyway to know conclusively which one is USB 2 without ruining a couple CDs testing the max burn speed on the various cables?

Unless its written in the cable itself, I'm afraid I don't think there's going to be a way to tell the cables apart.

However, does your CDRW require a power supply? The reason I'm asking is because if it uses USB 2, chances are that it is powered by the USB port because USB 2 ports provide more power than USB 1.1 ports. I think the USB 2 cables are modified in some way to reflect this too, so if its a USB 1.1 cable, your CDRW might not get all the power it needs, so it won't work. All you need to do then is to go through all the cables to determine which one does power the drive.

But then, this is all speculation on my part.

I am surprised external CDRWs could content with the USB power supply only. Are those regular 5.25 drives or laptop drives?
