Excel for Mac showing '#VALUE' error

I have received an Excel spreadsheet containing multiple pages with data that I need to view and manipulate.

However, in a seemingly random distribution, some cells read '#VALUE', which indicates a formula error.

My friend opened the same file on his PC, and the problem did not occur....in fact some of the numerical data in the cells was entirely different.

I do not understand why this is happening...I have tried uninstall/reinstall Office with no success. Please help!!

I think value errors are either because the column is too narrow or there's something wrong with the formula, like it refers to an empty or textual cell.

If it were the width, the cell would be filled with only #######. ##Value## means there is a formula error.

The separators in formulas are different between Mac and Win. Win uses semicolons, Mac uses commas. Version to version the translation is the same. My guess is that the Win file is made by a newer/older version of Office than you have on the Mac. Open it in Win and save as a file that is compatible with your version of Office.

Just guessing about the seeming randomness of it. Perhaps the file was created in one version of Win Excel, but those funky cells were updated in another version. Still, if the version translation is the problem, saving as should clear it up.

second edit - the brain's on fire! Check the bad formulas and see if they are supported in your version of Office.
