Hi all..

I'm newbie here....

I'd like to know what is EXE files in MacOS?? After downloading some files in windows and save it in my G5 through network. I found my HD filled with ".EXE" files.

For example, I have a folder name GAME. Inside the folder, there's a file name "GAME.EXE". And almost my folders contain ".EXE" files. I'm afraid that a virus, so I won't try to open them.

Is there any virus in MAC???

Thank you.

Hello,
Dont worry Everyone is a "Newbie" at one point of there life .EXE Files are Executable files, These are not compatible with UNIX, This is what OSX is built around.
You will have to buy macintosh compatible games.
There is No Viruses on OSX Because there is no point of making them because very few people have them.

Hope This helps,
CJ

Let us get this clear. You downloaded the .exe files in Windows. These are Windows executable files. Just saving them from Windows to the Mac does not magically make them executable on the Mac. The .exe extension has been the extension for MS-DOS [and then Windows] executables larger than 64 KB since 1981. If these files are viruses, they were viruses before you stored them on your Mac. However, Windows viruses have absolutely no affect on your Mac.

For future reference, MacOS X applications have the extension .app. MacOS X applications are really folders (or directories) which you handle as single files. Macs can also execute Java executables. These usually have the extension .jar. In addition to MacOS X security, Java apps are restricted to the Java "sandbox." They are doubly safe. The takeaway message is that you have nothing to worry about.
