I used Disk Utility to erase the drive, selecting the "write zeros" option. When operation finished, Disk Utility was hung, no icon for that HD on desktop. Forced Quit DU. Disconnected drive, reconnected, received error message "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer." It gave three options, "Initialize", "Ignore" and "Eject". I chose Initialize, which opened up DU again. When I attempted to partition drive, DU ran for 40 minutes before I forced quit. I tried to do simple erase, ran for 15 minutes, no drive noise, no progress, only option was "Forced Quit" (normal Quit not offered). I've now tried another erase by writing zeros, it claims it will take 3 hours! (Only estimated 90 minutes the last attempt). The progress bar has advanced about 1/8th total distance and still announces "3 Hours".
I opened DiskWarrior, but it cannot see the drive. I cannot understand how erasing drive could have caused this mess. What now?
