external monitor / color problems

I just recently purchased an ibook g4 and when I try to hook up my acer lcd monitor to it works fine, but when i disconnect it to go back to using the regular notebook monitor i get color problems almost to where it defaults to 16 colors. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I just fixed it myself. Just as a heads up for everyone if you shutdown your computer while the external vga is connected, you have to boot up that way and then disconnect it. Otherwise you'll have issues.

That's weird. I also use an external monitor with my iBook G4 so I can have a spanned display across the two monitors. Has anyone else experienced this issue? Is it documented by Apple or anyone else?

I wonder if you would see the same problem if you had dual monitor support. Do you have it turned on? If not, you can check out Screen Spanning Doctor and activate screen spanning for your iBook. I'll try to test it later with mine by shutting down (which I rarely do) and restarting with the monitor disconnected.
