External monitor...how to Mirror a virtual desktop?

Hi folks!..Newbie here.....I would like to know if it is possible to mirror a virtual desktop(space) on an external display while i continue to navigate across the other virtual desktops on my macbook pro.

Example...I would like to have a video playing on Desktop1 and mirrored to an external monitor for a viewing audience while navigating across the remaining desktops(spaces) on the macbook pro's display? Is this possible?

Let me tell you about what I have found. I use VLC as a media player. It allows you to put a video on a second monitor-in my case a video projector. The first monitor shows the VLC controls and the Mac finder. We want to use this setup for our film festival which we put on every year.
