I recently purchased a Philips Voice Tracer 880 digital voice recorder. It interfaces with Mac OS X or Windows via USB. I have a MacBook Pro running Leopard 10.5.7. Any time I plug in the VT 880, the drive mounts just fine. Then, if I try to open any folders, Finder freezes.
I cannot eject the drive (it either says it's in use or just doesn't respond), but once I simply pull the plug I regain control of Finder. Of course I get the "Device Removal" warning, but other than that, things go back to normal.
I also have an iMac running Tiger (10.4.11). When I plug the VT 880 into the iMac, it mounts fine, I can open all the folders and copy off files.
I have corresponded with Philips, and the only thing they could offer was formatting the VT 880 and installing the latest firmware. I've done this more than once, but no improvement.
Could this be an issue with Leopard or is it more likely that my VT 880 is defective? Any advice would appreciated.
