External USB disks, please help!!

Hi, I've just bought two USB firexpress enclosures using the Via VT6204 chipset. I've managed to install a couple of 300gb disks as per the instructions but neither of the enclosures work with my Mac although they work fine on any windows pc. The chipset is supposed to be fine with OS X but simply doesn't play ball

When I plug the enclosures into my mac I can see the disk drive in finder but as soon as I try to write to the disk enclosure the disk activity light goes out and finder hangs until I unplug the usb disk.

My powerbook sees the enclosure and the disks but can't format or partition them. (Also hangs)

I've tried setting the disks as slave/master as well as trying cable select, neither made a difference.

I've tried different brands of hard disks

I've tried 4 different G4 OS X 1.4 Macs (two powermacs and two powerbooks)

I've tried leaving the disks un-partitioned.

I've tried to partition and format the disks with HFS.

I've also tried different USB leads.

If I use smaller disks or use the 32gb limit on the large disks then everything works on my macs. I don't understand why they work on my pc but not on my mac! The enclosures are made by addlogix and sold to me by WeLoveMacs but neither tech support hasn't responded to my questions.

Can anyone here help me?
