Extracting a Sound from an Application

I have a sound I would like to extract from an application. I have ResEdit, and can even play the sound inside ResEdit when I have the application resouces in front of me. How do I extract that sound from the application and save it to disk? I successfully removed the sound from the application, but it's still in a ResEdit resource fork file. I just want to play the sound in AOL Instant Messenger. Any suggestions?

In the past I've copied the sound in ResEdit, pasted into the Scrapbook and then dragged from Scrapbook onto the desktop, creating a sound file. Wow, OS9 sounds ancient now. heh

That's how I've gotten sounds from an app, but I'm not sure what you want to do with AIM (I haven't used it in a couple of years).
