while a few threads came clost, they didnt quite cover what i was looking for.
im looking at TV tuning and recording hardware atm for standard TV and i am trying to decide between the Miglia Alchemy DVR TV and the Eye TV 200. My main concern with the Miglia (while its a much nicer price) is that Mpeg 4 will be pretty ordinary and any other codec will be a pain to convert to DVD format later.
i like the idea of hardware encoding, i think the PCI based miglia may really hog system resources. also there is the pain of having to encode the files for burning to DVD/CD after recording as mentioned above.
If anyone has used the Alchemy i would love to hear your thoughts, especially on the real time MPEG 4 encoding and its quality. im considering combining the TV tuner with an EyeTV home so i want decent quality recordings but having said that recording standard broadcast in mpeg2 may be overkill.
i would love to hear opinions, especially from those using the Alchemy as i know the EyeTV will do everything i want and more, its just a matter of justifying the price difference.
feel free to ask further questions of my exact intensions for the setup im planning, especially if you think u can help
