Yeah, Androo.
Last night i was watching tv. The simpsons.
I like that show.
It's funny.

Then came the commercials.

I saw a copy off of the new imac.
That's not all.
Beside it was the new apple imac.

They said "Our new Gateway computer is an all-in-one design, like the apple imac. Only ours is better. It has more RAM. It is faster. It has Windows XP preinstalled!
Also ours is cheaper. So buy OUR computer! $800. PS. We Suck!"
ok that ps wasn't there, but i wish it was.
To me that is racist. Macintosh is like my race.
I hope they won't sell. You can't move the screen around. I'll get a pic of that computer tomorrow.
 
androo - don't bother. this is old news. there are a couple of threads discussing this already. i suggest a site search for 'gateway' if you want to read them. (hint - this was 'news' at the time. :D

Remember....they're still running WinXP. You can't get it without that, Microsoft is really stubborn about giving a rebate on the money you paid for XP, if you say NO to the disclaimer in the beginning.

And since XP is essentially the pc.....and most people don't wanna go to linux or a non microsoft os.....they're crippled. Yeah....they're cheaper.....but still crippled. It's like spinning your wheels in the mud....slow or fast, it's the same thing.

And that's why some of us (me including), switched from a pc with micro$oft to a GOOD operating system. hehe

Just remember...in the words of the immortal Yoda...

Fear (of mac) leads to Anger (win problems). Anger leads to Hate (microsoft). Hate leads to suffering (forced to use Windows). :D
 
I've known about this imac copy for 3 months.
But i didn't know that they would actually sell - well to the point that they'd have a commercial.
But that's not the point, i hated how they put down the imacs.

Emachines had their wonderful eOne system....that was cm for cm, an exact copy of the original iMac....they got sued.

They may put down macs...but hey, we have the last laugh, when all those users have win problems. :D

My pc store sells what they call an LCD PC....which is just like that Gateway machine. It sells pretty well, but what's really selling is the Shuttle X PCs. Those are really a nice step for a good looking pc and yes, we do sell the option of getting 3 different distros of linux installed on it ;)
 
Apple is most likely gonna sue these guys. That's what all companies do when their products have something in common. I'm suprised Tom Green wouldn't sue Eminem for using a bit of the bum bum song in the song "The Real Slim Shady".
That's cuz Tom Green is cool. Anyone here seen the monkey hour?
 
Hmm... If it's racist to produce and broadcast this ad, isn't it already racist to consider 'Mac' 'your race'? (Because it implies that you think the 'other one' is worse?)

Well, let them have their ads. That won't cut into Apple's sales. If it has an impact at all, it'll mean that BOTH will sell more machines.
 
The only thing in this whole deal that I really object to is that the user has no option about buying Windows XP. I mean, yes, you could install Linux, but you've already paid your M$ tax.

does that really matter? so sell the OEM copy you got and get $30-40 for it. It's still cheaper than OS X, beautiful as it is. Comparing the 17" gateway to the 17" imac, the only significant different is that the gateway doesnt offer the DVD burner, but then again apple makes it standard and charges you $500 more than gateway. What about "choices" again? Why wont apple let you just get one with a CDRW? What if I dont WANT a DVD burner? Maybe I just want the extra cash to be in my pocket....
