Factory Rest, of sorts

It seems when i restart/relog on my powerbook, a few things are reset. For one, all the menu extras i had running are no longer there. And a dock icon for safari has been added. I repeatedly take it out, because i don't like to use it. Is there some setting in the preference pane that i am missing for these problems?

I'd recommend running a "Repair Permissions" on your drive.
Just open /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility and select your drive volume, then click "Repair Permissions".
After doing this, reboot your machine and see how you go.
