I think the new G5 is a fantastic machine and I will order one as soon as they are available in the UK (with Panther)... BUT

1. No slot loading CD/DVD.

2. No expansion bay for additional CD/DVD or Zip drives

3. you need to remove the side and find somewhere to put it, then remove a cover and find somewhere to put that, then remove the fans and find somewhere to put them, just to put RAM in (The G4 was so much simpler to open the side, remove nothing and it's parts are all laid out in front of you.)

I know this is done for the cooling system and it's a small price to pay for a quality computer, but there is room for improvment.

I like the mesh front, it will look cool with a neon light or two behind it!!
 
Hmmm, it will be very interesting to see how this thing opens for upgrades... you would presume that they've thought about this, but there is no indication at present that it'll be easy.
 
You can BTO the G5 with a Combo drive instead of a Superdrive, thereby saving you $200. It does stink that you can't add a second internal optical drive, but with FW cases being so cheap, it's not much harder to buy one of those and make it an external drive.
 
I said the exact same thing about no 2nd bay for another drive, but then looked at my Mac that I bought in 2001 and realized that I have NOTHING in the 2nd bay!
And I have an external FireWire Box! So I shut myself up right away! :)
 
well, since the ram can load 6.4gb in 1 second, there's no need for a second drive, right? =) now all we need is like, 400x dvd-read capabilities.
hehe.
