In the past I have had formatting problems when exporting files from FCE 3.5.1 due to issues with QuickTime. I managed to solve most of these problems by going back to QuickTime 7.3.1 and its been fine now for the last couple of months but I have just come across a new bug and I am starting to despair of QuickTime. The latest issue is that if I import a 320x240 video, do some editing and then try to export at the same size I am left with a huge unwanted black border whether through QuickTime or QuickTime conversion, but I can take the same source video and do the job properly in iMovie 06.
It has been suggested that I upgrade to the Pro version of Final Cut so that I can use the plug ins for Episode Pro and side step QuickTime but I really don't want to spend hundreds of pounds just because QuickTime seems to be so full of bugs, so I wondered if FCE 4 is having these same kinds of issues or if there is some other way to get QuickTime working more reliably? I have a job now to edit and convert about 100 clips for mobile phones so I could do with a quick reliable solution.
