hey all....
Man, I have spent a few hours on trying to capture in final cut from my Digi vid cam, maybe somneone here can help me. I have a DV > Firewire cable, I have the camera set to DV out but Final Cut cannot find any device there. In Audio/Video settings > A/V devices > Playback Output for video my option is [Missing] Apple Firewire NTSC (720x480). has anyone seen [Missing] before? Im not sure what I am doing wrong. The camera is a mini DV/Digital and Im trying to cpature from tape, Sony DCR-TRV.

I read somewhere that having more than one firewire cable plugged in may screw it up, so I unmounted my ipod unplugged it and rebooted, still not working, any ideas?

Hey Andehlu - sorry nobody has helped you sooner. Maybe one of my ideas may be helpful. I have a Sony too - TRV 27.

Is your camera set to VCR? It has to be to work with FCP. Basically this is the setting you would use to watch a tape on your camera. The selector switch on my Sony has VCR, Off, Camera and Memory. Again, this needs to be set to VCR for FCP to see it.

If all else fails let me know if you can capture/see yoru camera with iMovie. This might help us trouble shoot whether the issue is FCP or something else.

I wouldn't worry about the multiple firewire issue - I capture video from my camcorder with 3 firewire drives, a scanner and an AV converter all hooked up and running.

Also, when you get it working I would recommend using "Capture Now" if you are new to FCP. You can break up the entire clip into subclips after it has been captured by FCP. Open your clip into the viewer by double clicking on it. Go to the Mark menu and choose DV Start/Stop detection and boom your browser will have all the "subclips" listed seperately (meaning a seperate subclip for every time the camera was stopped started during recording.
