finder question

So there is that little "action" button in finder, right? I think its called an action buttion. I can't remember. I'm talking about the one that looks like a little gear.

Anyway, is there a way to add functions to that? Like can I write an applescript or something and have it show up there?
 
Sydneytim, i'm pretty sure he means the thing you can see in the attached file.

Apple call it an 'action menu'. It's basically a contextual menu. For me it's also useless. It shows things like show view options for a folder and lets you perform actions on a file or provides a ctrl+click pop-up menu. You can get rid of it by holding command and dragging it of the toolbar and get it back again by option+command clicking the little rectangular widget in the top right corner of the window and dragging it back on from the menu that pops up.
