Hi,

I have a problem at start up. When i log in as user a the finder window is stuck on the color wheel, but when i switch users to user b everything works fine no problems at all.
I'm running 10.3.9 at the moment and the problem has only happened since i installed the update.
I had problems with enoutrage 2004 in user a. could this be related? Today i tries to delete ms office 2004 to reinstall, but the finder stalled whilst i was doing a search to find all the office files.
I can use all the apps on the dock

any suggestions would be helpful

thanks

Welcome to the forum - and to the Mac?

Login as user b and repair permissions. To do that - open applications>utilities> disk utility. Choose the disk and repair permissions

If that doesn't fix it, you could try to delete the file com.apple.finder.plist in user a's account. You will need to use the terminal for that - also in the utilities folder. Are you confident with a terminal app (a DOS prompt kind of thing)?

Or you could delete the user a, make an new account for him/her and drag the things that you need from the deleted user folder before tossing it in the trash.

To uninstall Office 2004 (almost any app in OS X) , just drag the folder to trash and empty it.

thanks for your reply, i did a disk permissions but didn't work, i've made a new user and copied the files across but i am unable to see them, when i click on that folder i get the colored wheel again. If i do a sftware re install what files will be erased?
My mac experience has been great until a couple of weeks ago.
I'm willing to have a go at terminal, could you tell me what i have to write exact

thanks

Did you delete the original user a or did you just try to move stuff from the corrupted home directory? You have to delete the bad user - it will create an archive of all the files that you should be able to access. Otherwise you'll have permission problems again.
