Finding all excel docs

andrefrancis

... yes it's really me!
I have lost an Excel document and I cannot remember its name. The only chance I have is browsing through all Excel docs in a particular volume or folder ... but I cannot find how to do this!

Can anyone help me list ALL Excel workbooks in a given folder or volume?

Thank you

Andre

If you are using Tiger it's so easy that it's actually fun.

In the Finder type Command+F to bring up the Spotlight window. As your search criteria, select the first drop down to be Kind. Beside that, select Other. In the text box to the right of that, enter Excel and hit Enter. There are all your Excel files. See the attached screen shot to see what I mean.

The MacOS and MacOS X have used [Apple]+[F] as the keyboard shortcut for the Finder's Find... command since Shep was a pup.

Of course (btw I purchased my first 128k Mac before Shep moved out of Gracelands) ... but I still cannot get it to list all Excel docs. This can be done quite easily on the platform that 'dares not speak its name'.

If you know the date you last used the file, you can have the finder list everything in a folder by date. Also, excell, keeps a small list of recently used files, under the file menu, or in project center.
