I tried to install xfree86 (running fink) and this takes a LONG time!
I was so sick of it so I just cntl-c it :p
Is there a place where I can go download a compiled version of xfree86, the games, the databases, the crypto and all that fink has to offer but in a manner that saves me time?

Actually you can download all of Xfree86 (and most other packages) as a (pre-compiled) binary from Fink ... once downloaded the binary packages shouldn't take a lot of time to expand ... is something wrong maybe or am I missing something?
In Fink 90% of the time you can choose between source/compile and binary, so depending on the packages you want, just make sure you select to download the binary version and it should install pretty fast.

Why not just use Apple's x11?

It is based off of the XFree86 project, and is very easy to install. It also places the appropriate placeholder packages for fink, so it is compatible with that to.

Instead of using the command fink to install your apps, take a look at apt-get and apt-search. They're part of the fink installation, but the difference is that they install precompiled binaries, and thus will take much less time.

Ive used fink commander with plenty of success, but havent ever kept using any of the software I got there :b
