firewire problems

I bought a 20GB iPod and it works fine, but not with my computer. I got a iMac G3 700 DV and i have tried everything now. reseting PRAM, installing OSX 10.3 again. When i plug it in my firewire port the battery charges, but i dont get a connection to the computer.

When i look under systeminformation/firewire it says, "no information was found" Is my firewirecard broken? i dont have any other devices to try.

Or is it software missing?

Have you repaired permissions on your hard drive? It could be the system thinks you do not have permission to sync the iPod.
Did you get the latest iPod upgrade?
