fixed keyboard backlight brightness

Is there anyway to fix the brightness on the keyboard backlight? (fix as in make it not variable; not fix as in unbreak)
 
Do you have a PowerBook or MacBook with lighted keys? If so, there should be a setting in System Preferences (Apple Menu>System Preferences). I don't have a PowerBook or MacBook so I don't know the details.

powerbook. the preferences only seems to allow you to either choose to have the keyboard light or not - it doens't allow you to 'keep lighted'. anyone else?
