Flash not working

I recently had problems with my hard-drive, took it to the shop and had it fixed. Everything seems to be working ok however when I try to use Yahoo IM I get a not coming up saying that I require Flash 9 or higher.
In Safari plugings it says: Shockwave Flash
Shockwave Flash 10.0 r12 — from file “Flash Player.plugin”.
MIME Type Description Extensions
application/x-shockwave-flash Shockwave Flash swf
application/futuresplash FutureSplash Player spl'
In firefox Add-ins it says that Shockwave Flash is installed 10.0 r12

I've tried reinstalling the app from the adobe site. Yesterday I was able to install the app then start the browser. IM would work then. But as soon as I shut the window it wouldn't work and I would have to close the browser, reinstall the program...
What am I doing wrong?

Do you have an older version of the OS. I had this same problem when I first got--I believe--OS 10.4 . I had to keep downloading the damn Flash! In fact, it would "die" while I was using it--like listening to a game.

I have not had that problem since the OS updated to 10.4.11--it may have been earlier, I forget. It "solved" itself. However, I got to the point that I made the Flash Installer an application to routinely hit--considered make a script to automatically re-install the [CENSORED--Ed.] thing every day.

Anyways, I have not had the problem since 10.4.11 to 10.5.5.
