hey guys,

i tried switching on my macbook today. i got the switch on sound and as soon as the screen lit up, i got a flashing folder icon and question mark...

what do i do? im panicking coz i didnt manage to back up my latest files yesterday, haven't got my install cds with me and desperately need to have access on files...

ta!

Reboot the computer and press and hold down the option key immediately after the startup chime. If you do it properly, the computer will boot to a simple GUI that lists all bootable volumes and allow you to select the volume to boot to.

If nothing shows up, your harddrive may be screwed up.

It sounds more than likely like the HD is gone. As far as getting any files off the drive, every case is different but if the drive is clicking, then its going to require professional recovery, and they may not even be able to get anything? But on the bright side if your macbook falls within a certain date range, Apple just announced this REP recently.

managed to recover the files (HD start up using the disc from a macpro). switched the comp. back on a couple of times without getting the icon. checked the mac site, it matches the description! will contact the retailer to see if i can do something about it!

many thanks!!!
