Flip4Mac help please

Hi, I used to watch direct emissions on my new Mac (10.5.7) from the site www.ktotv.com using Flip4Mac on Mozzila Browser. Yesterday I downloaded Adobe reader for my pdf files, but if I got it well, I seem to somehow have managed to download an Adobe Flashplayer with it. Since then the site would not play files - so I uninstalled the Flashplayer and the whole Adobe hoping that it will automatically view files again in the Flip4mac. Nothing. tried to install Flip4mac once more. Nothing. Restart. Nothing. Tried to change a browser to Google chrome. It stills keeps saying that I have a missing plug in.

It worked perfectly with my old scrappy HP with Windows and now I'm lost and and missing my French emissions... Thanks for any advice!
 
Flip4Mac is a QuickTime codec that allows Mac users to play .wmv content. It has nothing to do with Flash. Make sure that you have the latest Flash plug-in installed and then move on. All browsers use your QuickTime plugin. Therefore, switching browsers can be expected to do nothing to fix your problem.

thanks a lot.Now I do have the latest version of Flashplayer installed - and it does open the Kto direct emissions - much less desperate than in the morning. However, when I go to the archive of Kto, a funny thing happens - a window pops up with an adress beginning like: mfile.akamai.com/6615/WMV/KTOTV.download.akamai.com...blabla, but it is not able to load. And of course the files are never opened. Yesterday, before the "I did something do not know what" tragedy I could play those files as well.

More interestingly, I installed once more the Quicktime player and Flip4mac (I uninstalled it while trying the good old - "do it again, perhaps it will work"). However, when I double click the Flip4mac it announces: "Quicktime player must be installed to run this application". I do see Quicktime player in my System preferences, so do not know how to react. Nevertheless, it evidently does not work, since when I uninstalled Flesh and tried once again the KTO with the Flip4mac+Quicktime (which worked yesterday for direct stream and archive) it did not open even the direct emission stream, not to mention the archive.

So I am wondering what have I done to my Quicktime, why can't I access the archive with Flesh, and how to get out to my regular French morning prayer - really miss it. Will be very thankful for any hints.
 
Akamai provides a huge Internet pipe used by various parties including Apple to stream video and other data.

It sounds as though you removed the QuickTime Player. You don't need to double-click Flip4Mac. The WMV Player application appears to have the sole purpose of hosting QuickTime icons for Windows Media content. Double-clicking it launches the QuickTime Player with your .wmv loaded.

I reached the same conclusion - only do not seem to be able to solve the situation...

I installed Quicktime (7.6.6. for Leopard dmg file for my Mac 10.5.7.from the apple website) yesterday, tried the whole thing again today. It's a always the same - I do see Quicktime player in the System preferences, under Interent and network settings, where I can open it an change settings (like streaming, advanced etc.).

However, when I go „searching in this MAc“ it finds a folder with Quicktime, but there is never the icon that used to be „clicable and draggable to the dock“. And when I double click F4M (the only way by which I realised that the WMN player actually does not recognize the QT) it keeps saying that the Quicktime player is necesary for its function.
I do not know how do I manage to mess up an installation - one just clicks download and restarts the notebook... It's so simple that I do not see what could I really do differently, so I am stuck.

Btw. If I ever get to have my QT installed again, how do I set my default player, and how can one change between them - try another player if one does not open the file, please?

P.S. When I do open the supposedly installed Quicktime file and click one of the components, like QuicktimeMPEG.component, it says: "There is no default application specified to open the document" and asks me to choose some. Do not know which of couse. I guess I am not supposed to open it that way, but I judge from this that something is missing there that would finish the installation. Any ideas please?
 
I have no idea what you are doing. The only thing that you should double-click on is the video that you want to play. MacOS X takes care of the rest--if your software is properly installed. There is no workaround for an improper installation.
 
Oh well, so the good old „put it away and try anew“ system... I reinstalled the Quicktime player from the installation CD and it did install properly. So I conclude that there is a difference between the QT player installed in the Mac OS and the freeware. Do not know what the difference is, but anyway, that's how it works. Now the two players seem to cohabit naturally - the direct emissions are taken over by Flash, archives by F4Mac. Why they alter like that, no idea. But as long as it works and they do not clash...
