Format my Logik mp3 player? I'll feed it to the cat...

I've got a Logik 512mb mp3 player that hooked up fine with my G5 and I also used it to store other data.

Yesterday, I took a load of files off it and trashed them. Now it won't come up as a drive on my desktop despite the window on the player saying 'Ready'.

I've tried to get a PC to talk to it but to no avail. One PC did make the mp3 player say 'writing' in the display but after two hours and no progress, i had to remove it.

If you turn the mp3 player on it says 'incorrect format'.

How can I get the bloody thing to speak to my Mac again?

Does the mp3 player store it's information on a memory card? You *might* be able to format it with one of those memory card readers if this is the case, but I have never tried this.

Eric,

No it's an all in one jobby. It lights up when you plug it into the USB port and says 'ready' but no icon appears on the desktop.

When I turn it on it says it needs to be formatted.

Bloody thing, never trust anything that sleeps with a PC.

Like an iPod, you mean. ;) ... You've probably trashed and erased an important file or folder that the player needs. Try to consult the player's manual and get in touch with the maker, I'd say. If all else fails, bring it in under warranty and have it replaced.

Does the CD that came with your MP3 player have some sort of Firmware Upgrade tool? If it does, that might fix it.
