freehand 9 files with embedded tiff file

Can you link to the tif file in a new file or does it crash that as well? I think it's the embedding and the tif file itself that are causing your issue, unless the embedded file works in FH 9...
 
Personally I hate placing images in the vector art program and try to never embed anything. Once you get it open the first thing I would do is seperate the tiff from the freehand document and re-merge them in a page layout program (InDesign or Quark). I experience nothing but problems (as you appear to be also) with files like this.
 
I personally believe the issue is the upgrade from freehand 9.0 to mx. Prior to that I was able to work with embedded tifs in freehand. (for a few years at least). Like I had said, I have 100 or so files that I cannot open now.

Before I upgraded my computer I was able to open those files using classic os9.

After upgrading, I was unable to run classic or freehand 9.
