Okay, I did a search for this on the site and didn't find anything. So, here goes:

Dvorak is using a Mac and likes it okay. Pretty much.

And that's not all. He is even recommending them to people who ask for his recommendation (non-computer experts)!!! (Of course, it seems to work well for many computer experts too.)

P.S. Sad news about Bobw.

Yeah since the Intel switch, he's been recommending them over PCs. He's talked a good amount about it on the TWiT podcast. And after using the iPhone for a bit, he's also starting to warm up to it after being vehemently against it. He still is not impressed with the feature set of this initial release of the iPhone compared to other smartphones out there.

Yes he does. But this column seems a bit different. Dvorak likes to get attention (which = $ for him). But he's never really seen the point of using a Mac. I think that he's realizing Mac users don't have to fuss with antivirus, antispyware, anti-rootkit annoyances.

You have to be virtually a security expert to safely use Windows. I hope Vista helps.

How so? AFAIK, Vista's track record regarding viruses/worms etc. is far better than XP's. And the vulnerability/fix track record is (gasp!) better than Mac OS X or linux. I don't have links ready, but that's what's been said in the last few months.

There are still some problems with Vista, such as the intrusive User Account Controls (UAC) that I imagine most people will simply turn off. They're either on or off, there's no fine tuning. At least, that was how it was when Vista was released. OS X's required authentication is not a miracle shield or anything, but at least it isn't overly obtrusive, IMHO.

Overall, though. It looks to be a definite improvement over XP for security.
