ftp question

Hi am a bit confused with something, we have a ftp server (emac) setup so files come directly in, people are often uploading large files to us, 300Mb+, does this eat our bandwidth when they send these files or is it the sender?

Another question, if you have say a 256 k connection and are sending a file to someone on a 56k connection will the file transfer depend on the person recieving or sending the file??

It eats the upload on the sender, and download on the recipent.

The total connection speed is the lowest speed of connection. If the sender is 56k, and receiver is 256K, then the speed is <56k, due to network latency, and other factors. If the sender is 1.5M, and the receiver is 256K, then the speed is <256k.
