Full hard drive will not start up

I have a Power Mac G5 w/160G hard drive. It has been giving me a full disk error. I would clean up some space and keep going. Finally it would not start up anymore. It will give me the musical chord, gives me the gray screen and the working sign, then a click comes from the hard drive and it shuts itself down. How can I get it back up and running?

From the information you've given it looks like the drive is toast. You need to determine how valuable the data is on that drive and determine if you want to spend the money to acquire the tools to try to risk getting the data yourself or if you would just rather spend more and do the safe thing and send the drive out for data recovery. Either way there is no gaurantee you'll get any data, but with a data recovery service, the charge will be minimal to maybe nothing if they can't retrieve the data.

djackmac is most often right on, but something you might try would be to boot up using the install CD, then using Disk Utility from the top menu check and see if the drive is mounted.
If it is, then try using "Repair disk", this is a real stretch but hey, who knows.
