Function keys in 10.1.1

I am using a Powerbook G4 and 10.1.1. How do I make the function keys act as function keys (F1 - F12) and not control brightness ... In 9.2.1 I use the keyboard menu to set this but it does not seem to be available in 10.1.1

I believe you simply hold down the "fn" key (located in the lower left hand corner) while pressing the desired F1-F12
