Funky problem with 10.3.9, please read

No network connectivity whatsoever on dual 1.8ghz G5 10.3.9.

Built-in ethernet says not connected.
Physically switched the Cat-5 cable. When I plug the cable into my MacBook, it gets DHCP just fine.

Airport says "on" but not connected to a network, and there are no networks showing up in the list (even though on my MacBook Pro picks up at least 10 right next to the G5).

I even installed a PCI NIC card, installed drivers, and it says "not connected" when I use the same working Cat-5 cable.

Out of desperation I've cleared the PRAM. Looked in Library/Preferences but didn't see any com.network files to move. I've also repaired disk permissions.


Any other ideas? I'm in a crunch here. Next step is reformatting/reinstalling OS, which I don't care to do.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
 
I don't think your airport and ethernet problems are related, but they certainly are causing the same problem.

For your AirPort, open the case and look for the card, make sure the antenna is seated correctly.

Try creating a new location - I don't remember how you do this exactly on Panther, but basically, delete your old settings and create a fresh network

If you try to share internet through the airport, can you see it on the MacBook Pro?

You could also try reseting the SMU, but i'm not sure if that would make much sense here.
