Just inserted a CD in to the drive on the machine, goes in ok, but it get a mechanical wurring noise when the disk is in. Last week I had a stubon CD that wouldn't eject ( i had to get it out using Open Firmware eject)

Is this a problem that the machine will have to go back to the apple store for? and what is it?

How does the CD look like? Does it somehow look "unbalanced" (i.e. a sticker on one side..)? Does it happen with any CD?

I am having the same problem with my TiBook 867 with combo drive. It will play dvds and audio cds and written data disks, but not recognize any writable or re-writable blank disks, which is a pain as I have to use an external writer.
The combo drive is a Matshita CW-8121.
Does any one have any suggestions or where I can get a driver to see if it will cure problem?

I don't think it's a driver problem but rather a media issue. Did you try different brands? Verbatim works fine with my tibook.

And welcome to the forum :)

Hi Z-S!
Now this is weird; I tried loads of different cds and guess what? Only the Verbatim ones seem to do the trick for recording! However it's a shame to have to rely on one make. do you think the laser in the Matshita drive responds better to the bluish tint that Verbatim disks have?
[I was in Germany/Berlin 3 weeks ago.. great place!]

Happy Verbatim did the trick. However, I don't know what's the thing behind this picky "feature". Verbatim media is not only my first choice because they are working fine with my matshita uj-815a but also because they are very reliable and reasonable.
Hehe, funny actually. I have never been in Berlin. :) Or wait.. I think I was there just after the DDR wall was broken. But in those days I didn't have an eye for culture and nice cities.
