FYI, inetd.conf depreciated. 10.2 Switched to xinetd

if you're wondering why modifying /etc/inetd.conf doesn't have any effect on your services, its because Apple has switched to the more advanced xinetd

/etc/xinetd.d/ contains config files for each service.
 
Cool - I was wondering if/when Apple would do this..

It's a shame they missed the latest GCC3 release though, and hopefully there will be a service pack for the dev tools.
