Hi everyone, (Newbie)
When I start-up my Mac for the first time, the hard drive collates extremely slowly until it hangs on a GREY screen with the APPLE logo displayed centre. I then press the restart button, and it then proceeds to collate slowly again only this time it displays the BLUE screen with the FOLDER ICON and ? mark.
Having re-started for the third time the HD generally starts collating slowly but does eventually kick in OSX and I'm up and running or alternately it display a GREY screen with the following:
Default Catch!, code=300 at SRRO: f7dfdbdc SRR1: 400003030

Welcome to Open Firmware, the system time and date is 13:04:26

Once the system boots up it restarts fairly quickly the problem only seems to be when its been shutdown for a while.
MY SYSTEM:
G4/450: 1024mb Ram, ATI AGP Card (32mb) running OSX 10.2.8 and
(OS 9.2.2) firmware is upto date.
TEST DONE SO FAR:
Unpluged ALL 3 party devices (USB bus, Firewire, etc) (Problem still occurs)
Re-formatted my HD and reinstalled Mac OS 9.2.2 (Problem still occurs)
Re-formatted my HD and reinstalled Mac OSX 10.2.8 (Problem still occurs)
Checked my Memory Ram individually (All appear to be OK)
Reset permissions (Problem still occurs)
Reset Pram/Vram (Problem still occurs)
Reset start-up disk preferences (Problem still occurs)
Changed battery (Problem still occurs)
Booted up from TECH Tools Pro and run test on HD (No problems detected)
Booted up from OSX and run disk aid (No problems detected)
The only guides I can give you is that all runs OK when it eventually start-up, but I have observed that the machine has been collating a lot more frequently over the last few weeks, which led me to belive it was a RAM/Memory promblem.
Sorry it a bit long but I've tried to give you as much info as possible. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated as I'm not sure what else I can do (apart from resetting the PMU as a last resort).
Thanks inadvance
John
ps. Ive not tried running the fsck utility?....does anyone think this may help!
