OK - first posting,
Had my frisky Mac G4 for about 5 years, no problems to date
Recently however, he's been 'off his food' - tried his favourite Liberace, Yello, Los Amigos Invisibles, Sparks and Kraftwerk CDs, he eats em up like he 'outta', but a couple of seconds later I hear his stomach doing 'strange stuff' (CD-RW 'spins-up' - as per normal - then 'stops' - then spins-up again then 'stops' repeats this 4 / 5 times ) this goes on for about 60 seconds, then he's 'sick all over the desk' (ejects CD)
No message on the desktop - no CD icon appears - seems not to recognise the CD, or worse, the CD player's 'gone blind' or broken tried 'home-made' / 'shop bought' CDs and even a CD cleaner (in the hope of cleaning any dust out of his 'slot') all to no avail
In addition to not 'reading' CDs, the CD draw opens on start up, and if closed, opens a couple of minutes later (again, 'spins-up' - as per normal - then 'stops' - then spins-up again then 'stops' repeats ) and so on, so I leave it open now - again no dialogue box on desktop i.e 'please insert the Liberace CD' etc)
Had macs for some time now and this is the first 'upset' that I haven't been able to diagnose myself as Oddball (Donald Sutherland) in the film 'Kelly's Heroes' states 'I only ride 'em, I don't know what makes 'em work.'
Hoping someone in the vast 'facelessness' of cyberstorage can help
PS - This only started about 10 days ago - and I haven't changed anything between when the machine / CD-RW worked fine, to now, where it 'sicks up' whatever I feed him ?
Maybe he's just sick of my musical 'tastes' can that happen with a mac ?
Thanks in advance
Steve H
