G4 and intermittent no signal from LCD

Advice-ideas, please.

My system is G4 mdd dual 1 ghz with a new ViewSonic 2030b LCD. OSX 10.3
(latest edition before 10.4)

The problem of "no signal" occurs whene the computer has been shut off for more than an hour. To receive signal I've had to pull the DVI-D cable off the Display and plug it back in. Sometimes I have to restart.

Monitor has analog and dvi connection. Analog works fine and was one of the ways I was able to get signal.

I've zapped pram 2x.

I am trying to corner this problem before my 7 day return policy or the 30 day warranty.

Could this problem be OSX related in any way? Can a display have a defective DVI port and if so could it be intermettent?

Again, all thoughts are appreciated.

Open the case and you'll see a small microswitch on teh mainboard. unplug power, and hit that switch. DONT hold for more than half a second and DONT do it a second time. Try that, see how you go. If that doesn't help, remove your video card and clean the pins with a circut board safe cleaner. Wait till dry then reseat the card. make sure whenever handling cards you follow ESD (static damage) precautions.

Thanks for your reply, Matt,

However, I am wondering why I need to reset hardware? Is there some kind of residual code from being connected to a crt? What will this do for the Video Card? Just curious.

Today I've replaced the new DVI-D cable. I had suspected it as part of the problem since my analog cable/port was working fine. I am still in the process of testing and so far have not had to restart or pull the plug to get a signal. So I may have been looking at a defective (albeit new) DVI cable.

If I get the "lost signal" message I'll try the reset button. If that fails, then it's on to the reset Hammer!

...or I'll just return the monitor.
