G4 goes to sleep and can't wake up

My 2000 G4 with 10.4. :When it goes to sleep it can't wake up and must be resarted 1,2,3, or more times till the keyboard will work and I can log in. Also, the hard drive sometimes makes a loud bad whineing sound. I just live with it for now....Any help on this? Stev

dude, shut it down, and don't turn it on till you get a new hard drive. then install the new drive, download carbon clone copier and copy your hard drive over before it dies for good.

It's likely that some hardware is causing your G4's sleep problems. Remove all cards and attached devices except the Apple kbd and mouse, and test for sleep problems again.
