G4 iBook DVD player doesn't work anymore

Hi All!

For years now my G4 iBook has been locked to my local Region as far as DVDs are concerned. Up until yesterday I was able to play local and R0 DVDs. Have just tried playing the same and for some reason it won't play anything. DVDs either get auto ejected or I have to restart and keep hitting F12 to get the DVD out.

Any help appreciated.
 
No error comes up. Just the start of the sound of the DVD rotating before it stops followed by a longish silence. I don't know what GUI or console is. I haven't dropped the iBook either.
 
gui = the graphical user interface. So any warning or error that the application (or other applications) would give you when you try to open it.
Console you can find in /Applications/Utilities, and it will show the logs. You can e.g. open it, and keep it visible, then try to play the DVD again.

Try to open the DVDs with VLC.

So now that is happening on all movie DVDs?
Reset PRAM. If it still does it after, what is showing in Console? Thee should be some errors showing in it.
